TACKLING the big sector issues at the Technical Seminar and Awards Dinner is underway today, organised by The Federation of Traditional Metal Roofing Contractors (FTMRC) and Lead Contractors Association (LCA).

Taking place at the Woodlands Hotel in Warwickshire and attended to capacity by more than 150 sector specialists, a range of keynote speakers, workshops and presentations consider some of the topical issues of the hard metals and cladding sectors.

Main presentations include Critical Issues in Construction Management by Lawrence Pearce and Chrissie Parks of Holmes & Hills Solicitors; Training, Culture and Wellbeing by Denise Cherry of the National Roofing Training Group; and Copper, Zinc and the Restoration of Notre Dame by Nicolas Bossard and Olivier Etienne from Groupe Balas.

Denise Cherry said, “The FTMRC is all about quality control and ensuring high standards of installations are maintained. This is particularly critical in a climate of skills shortages, and training is crucial to ensuring a quality workforce is available.

“Recruiting and retaining the next generation of roofers and cladders into the industry is a business survival issue and a big part of that depends on the positive culture organisations are able to foster to deliver workforce wellbeing.”

Technical Workshops

Technical workshops at the conference are focusing on installation topics, including about VELUX rooflight installations; Solar PV on Lead Roofs; Build Ups for Metal Roofing & Cladding; and Lead Ornamentation.

The conference started this morning with a tribute to Brian Turner of Turners Ornamental Leadwork from LCA Chair, Alisdair White. It will end this evening with an awards dinner recognising a range of hard metal roofing and cladding projects.

Sponsoring the prestigious Murdoch Sponsors Award for outstanding lead projects, Midland Lead are also joining several exhibitors at the conference. Kyle Hazeldine and Alex Cooke will be on hand during the day to answer questions about the lead manufacture and recycling process.

Kyle said, “We’re here to talk all things lead with the ultimate professionals. We are also delighted to be here as sponsors of the Awards and would like to wish good luck to all of the nominated finalists.”
