Langley has appointed Leon Shead as Head of Solar PV and Renewables to launch a dedicated solar division targeting the company’s existing client base of schools, housing associations and commercial buildings.

With major projects delivered for Mears, One Housing and specialist installations across the UK, Leon brings the technical competency and project management experience to scale Langley‘s renewable energy offering alongside its century-long roofing heritage.

Leon brings over 15 years delivering solar installations, from megawatt-scale commercial projects to specialist residential systems. As former National Technical Project Manager at Mears, he oversaw 150 branches nationally. His track record includes Essex Fire Service solar programmes, Mid and West Wales Fire Service installations and major contracts with Peter Brisk schools and United Utilities.

New Solar Division

Langley’s solar division will serve its existing client network first, with 60 to 70 installation projects already in the pipeline. The five-year target is 1,000 annual installations with a six-person specialist team. Integration with Langley’s roofing offer creates combined warranties and ESG solutions for social housing clients.

Leon Shead said: “Solar technology has transformed in the last three years alone. Battery systems that were massive in 2015 are now half the size with four times the capacity. But technology means nothing without proper installation standards and ongoing maintenance. That’s where Langley’s reputation for quality and long-term accountability makes the difference.”

Tony Silvestri, CEO at Langley, said: “Leon’s appointment isn’t about chasing a trend. It’s about bringing the same standards we’ve built in roofing to a market that desperately needs them. Our clients are already asking for solar solutions. Now we can deliver them properly, with the warranties and aftercare they deserve.”

Leon’s appointment supports Langley’s For Better Living strategy, combining renewable energy with the company’s existing roofing and sustainability expertise to help clients meet net zero targets while reducing operational costs.
