Labour-Only Roofing Contractor Pay Rises by 6.2% in June

LABOUR-ONLY ROOFING contractor pay saw the strongest growth in earnings with a 6.2 per cent increase in June to £742, according to a construction tax and pay specialist firm.

Hudson Contract’s payroll data shows average weekly earnings for a labour-only subcontractor nationally. June’s figure compares to a national average of pay to roofing contractors across all age groups over the past three years, of £791 per week.

Labour-Only Roofer Contractor Pay

Roofer subbies’ average pay is considerably less than for other self-employed tradespeople which was £873 per week during June – a reduction of 1.2 per cent on the previous month.

Year on year, labour costs increased by 2.9 per cent in June.

Ian Anfield, managing director of Hudson Contract, said: “The market is still incredibly busy with housebuilding and infrastructure work and we don’t see any signs of activity slowing down.”

Regions

Regionally, average roofing pay over the past 3 years varied between its highest in the North East at £941, to its lowest in Wales of £566.

Additionally, Hudson Contract figures show the highest pay rates peaked in December 2019, when they reached £1,000 per month in the London region. The latest average for London pay to labour-only roofers was £772 in June.

Age Groups

As can be seen, pay averages for roofing subcontractors also varies considerably according to age – with the highest rates earned in the 35 years-49 years old bracket.
