Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) plastic recovered from the ocean will be recycled into roof tiles to replace the existing roof, demonstrating how recovered ocean waste can be used in community infrastructure. The project is part of a wider plan to tackle ocean bound plastic pollution and enable the recycling of recovered materials in community projects in Indonesia and Thailand. The multi-phase initiative also includes installing river barriers in both regions to prevent plastic leakage into the ocean and the collection of over 100,000kg of marine plastic waste from the environment. Reducing Ocean Plastic Pollution The collaboration between Kingspan and Seven Clean Seas is built on shared values, with both organisations taking steps to benefit both people and the environment. “Our partnership with Seven Clean Seas reflects a shared commitment to reducing ocean plastic pollution,” said Holly Loughman, Head of Sustainability at Kingspan. “Over the next three years, we aim not only to prevent plastic waste from flowing into the ocean in these regions but also to build lasting waste management infrastructure that will continue to support the local communities beyond the partnership. “We are delighted to collaborate with an organisation that shares our commitment to creating lasting improvements for these communities.” Planet Passionate Through its global environmental sustainability programme, Planet Passionate, Kingspan is on a mission to ‘accelerate a net zero emissions built environment with people and planet at its heart’. Kingspan has a track record of supporting ocean clean-up initiatives, demonstrated through previous multi-year partnerships with rePurpose Global and 4Ocean to remove plastic waste and support communities. Having achieved its ocean clean-up target in 2024, Kingspan says it remains committed to sustaining this impact through its latest partnership with Seven Clean Seas. Oliver Kade, CTO & UK Country Manager for Seven Clean Seas, commented: “Kingspan has shown remarkable leadership through their Planet Passionate programme, and it is an honour to partner with a team so deeply committed to meaningful, measurable impact. “Seven Clean Seas is built on certified recovery, transparency and community-centred solutions, and we’re excited to work with Kingspan to expand this work across Southeast Asia. Together, we’re not only protecting marine environments, but we’re also building the systems that will keep them healthy for generations.” >> Read more about Kingspan in the news Previous article Liverpool Mayor Signs First-of-its-Kind Construction Training PartnershipNext article Five Ways to Maintain Your Roof and Extend its Lifespan Share article You may also like View all News Industry News +2 20 March 2026 RA Issues Revised Safety Guidance on Rooflight Covers Awards and Events +3 20 March 2026 The Great British Slate Off Returns for 2026 Green Roofs +3 20 March 2026 Swansea Joins Global Network of Biophilic Cities Sign Up to Roofing Today Stay up to date with all of the latest news from Roofing Today by signing up to our weekly Bulletins… Sign Up Today Get in Touch Check out the latest issue 123 March-April 2026 View Now Past Issues Get in Touch
