The former C4 Googlebox TV programme star suffered traumatic injuries to his head and torso and died in Shoeburyness, Essex. Essex police have finished their investigation into the death and HSE will now examine the circumstances of the fatal fall. George Gilbey’s Fatal Roof Fall Coroner’s officer Deborah Frost told an initial inquest that the 40-year-old had been working on a roof when he fell through a plastic skylight, landing on the ground below. Two men who were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter in relation to the death will face no further police action, Essex Police said. They confirmed that the criminal investigation remains open but will be now led by HSE. HSE Inspector Natalie Prince said: “We have been a part of this inquiry from the outset, and we will continue to thoroughly investigate George’s tragic death as the lead agency. “This will aim to establish if there have been any breaches of health and safety law. “We are in regular contact with George’s family and our thoughts remain with them at this time.” George Gilbey starred in Googlebox alongside his parents, between 2013 and 2018, and he also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2014. The self-employed electrician, 40, underwent a post-mortem examination which found his injuries were “consistent with a fall from height”. >> Read about more HSE investigations in the news Previous article Why is My Powder Coating Failing?Next article Burton Partners with Don & Low on ‘Burton Blue’ Membranes Share article You may also like View all News Access +5 26 August 2026 Renewed Call for Greater Focus on Working at Height Safety Health & Safety +3 18 August 2026 Company and Director Fined for Risking Lives with Unsafe Roof Work Access +3 18 August 2026 Telehandler Driver Fatally Reverses Over Colleague Health & Safety +3 12 August 2026 Council Fined After Worker Breaks Ribs in Stepladder Collapse Sign Up to Roofing Today Stay up to date with all of the latest news from Roofing Today by signing up to our weekly Bulletins… Sign Up Today Get in Touch Check out the latest issue 125 July-August 2026 View Now Past Issues Get in Touch
