Read the latest magazine Climate Change Industry News Sustainability Hilti GB Joins UK Green Building Council 8 March 2023 HILTI GREAT BRITAIN has become the latest member of the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC), as the company aims for carbon neutrality by the end of the year, and net zero by 2050. Membership of the council is externally assessed against key sustainability metrics, and from 2021 the UKGBC has required all its business members to demonstrate that they have a commitment to tackling climate change and a genuine focus on sustainability. Green Hiliti GB To minimise its effect on the environment, the Hilti Group committed to become CO2 neutral in its own operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 2023. Next to reducing and offsetting its own carbon emissions, 90% of the emissions in the value chain occur outside of its own operations (Scope 3). To further reduce these emissions, the Hilti Group is accelerating its sustainability ambitions and shifting the focus to its Scope 3 emissions by committing to set a near- and long-term CO2 reduction target through its commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Hilti’s plans for sustainability is outlined in its latest sustainability report. The Hilti Group is set to invest a triple-digit million Swiss franc amount to incorporate systematic changes into its own business processes and to further encourage its partners to do the same. Via membership of the UKGBC, Hilti’s 1000-strong GB workforce will be able to make use of the council’s learning and development programme, as well as its four regional networks in Manchester, Birmingham, the South West and Scotland. Hilti’s UK sustainability manager said: “Joining the council makes complete sense due to the matching vision of Hilti to ‘Making Construction Better’ and UKGBC of a ‘Better Built Environment’.
