Members from the organisation came together and decided they would launch a campaign to raise awareness of green roofs and their many benefits.

Launching on World Book Day (6 March), Green Roof Organisation (GRO) decided they would give away up to 400 copies of the children’s audio/picture storybook Journey to the Green Roof until World Green Roof Day, which is on 6 June 2025.

GRO members will select five children’s groups in their local area, across the country, to be the recipients of the book, written and illustrated by Tales from Mother Earth a conservationist publisher.

Books are also available for sale online to anyone wishing to purchase a copy, with proceeds going towards the GRO Training & Education Fund.

The Green Roof Organisation (GRO) is a not for profit trade association which represents the UK green, blue and biosolar roofing sectors, with 80 members.

Journey to the Green Roof

In a Journey to the Green Roof, Freya, a hairy-footed flower bee and Sarah, a European seven-spotted ladybird, each get caught up in their own adventure as the story details their journey to the green roof. We follow how everything changes for them so dramatically in one single day, and how they both come to the same conclusion in very different ways – that every roof should be green!

The book aims to teach children 3-10 years old through storytelling, how important green roofs are as a structure and what they can give back to wildlife and biodiversity.

Accompanied by an original score and narrated by Mother Earth, this story aims to raise the awareness of the plight our natural world and educate and inspire the young.
