Govt Seeks Feedback from SMEs to Develop Small Business Strategy

THE NATIONAL Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) is encouraging its SME members to take part in a survey and call for evidence as part of a new inquiry into the UK’s small business strategy.

The House of Commons Business and Trade Committee is looking to gather real experiences from real businesses to help shape the Government’s approach, covering topics from unfair business rates and rising costs, to access to finance and government contracts.

NFRC is also supporting the committee to populate a panel of SME construction businesses for the committee members to hear from.

Committee Chair Rt Hon Liam Byrne MP explained: “This inquiry is about one thing: giving small businesses the voice in the national debate that they deserve—to build a growth strategy that works not just for the giants, but for the grafters, the builders, and the job creators who power our communities and high streets.”

Roofing SMEs can get involved in two ways:

  • Complete a short seven question survey – This will help the Committee understand the key challenges and opportunities facing SMEs across the country. Access the survey here.
  • Submit written evidence – Share your views in more detail by responding to specific questions on topics like business support, tax, access to finance, high street decline, and productivity. Submit written evidence here.

Feedback can be submitted until 16 July 2025.

A written submission will also be submitted by NFRC. Members are invited to share their thoughts by contacting policy@nfrc.co.uk.

NFRC comments, “Whether you’re a sole trader, a growing roofing contractor, or a family-run firm, this is your chance to help influence a strategy that works for businesses like yours.”
