Garland UK will be Net Zero Carbon by 2032

WATERPROOFING systems manufacturer Garland UK will be a net-zero company by 2032, 18 years earlier than the Government’s 2050 net-carbon zero targets.

Specialising in high-performance waterproofing systems across the commercial, residential, industrial and public sectors, Garland offers a complete range of building envelope products ranging from bituminous membrane, metal, and cold applied liquids, to solar PV and Green roof systems.

Net Zero

On the journey to net-zero, Garland UK engaged with environmental consultant Resource Futures to address four key areas for change: carbon reduction, resource efficiency, people and social value.

Through essential improvements to the organisation and supply chain, Garland now has the infrastructure in place to be accountable for its environmental impact and offer quantifiable results when supporting its customer’s carbon accounting.

John Mather, National Sales Manager at Garland UK, played an integral role in the development of the Sustainability Commitment. He said: “Now more than ever, we are working with clients who each have progressive carbon reduction targets to meet in the coming years. There was so much more we could be doing as a business to be more sustainable and now with our Commitment in place, we have a clear path to net-zero and a better way to support our customers’ environmental initiatives in the future.”

Carbon Reduction

At present, the built environment accounts for almost 40% of the UK’s total carbon and for many businesses, carbon reduction is now the foundation of their key sustainability targets.

With plans in place to reduce the carbon emissions across the supply chain, Garland’s Sustainability Commitment will see the business become carbon neutral by 2025 (scope 1 and 2), gaining PAS 2060 Carbon Neutrality certification. Following this crucial step, Garland will get Science Based Targets (SBTi) validation by 2027, to become net-zero (scope 1, 2 and 3) by 2032.
