Over that time, the company has refined its training content and delivery methods, offering training at merchant branches, within classroom facilities at its two training centres, and through on-site support on live projects. The aim is to provide flexible training options to suit the requirements of both merchant and roofing contractor customers. Flex-R has been offering professional waterproofing solutions for flat roofs since the company began operating in the UK in 2000. Throughout this time, it has remained committed to training roofing contractors in the best installation practices for its cold-applied single-ply roofing membranes. Tim Bowers, Training & Installations Manager at Flex-R explains: “The company provides different training options for roofing contractors with the aim of improving their understanding of Flex-R roofing systems and supporting correct installation in accordance with Flex-R specifications and published installation guidance. The training programme is designed to help contractors develop practical installation skills and understanding of the system requirements associated with warranty applications.” Regular classroom training takes place at the Flex-R training facilities in both High Wycombe and Huddersfield. The practical EPDM training course combines classroom-based learning with hands-on installation exercises designed to support contractors in understanding application methods associated with Flex-R roofing systems. Classroom and Onsite Training Flex-R provides classroom-based training to its merchant customers who install the ClassicBond EPDM flat roofing system. In addition, the company offers specialist training for contractors working with the RubberBond FleeceBack reinforced EPDM system through its Specialist Registered Installer (SRI) programme. This training includes both classroom and on-site elements to provide additional technical and installation support for contractors working with the RubberBond FleeceBack reinforced EPDM system. Increased focus on fire risk management, insurance considerations and site safety has contributed to growing interest in cold-applied roofing systems for some applications. EPDM remains a widely used roofing membrane system that can be installed using relatively straightforward application methods when installed in accordance with manufacturer guidance and project specifications. Flex-R membranes are designed to provide resistance to puncture during normal installation and service conditions and form part of roofing systems intended to be subject to routine inspection and maintenance in accordance with manufacturer recommendations. Flex-R EPDM systems are covered by British Board of Agrément Certificate (22/6065), which states that, when installed, used and maintained in accordance with the certificate holder’s instructions, the systems can be expected to provide a durable waterproof covering with a service life in excess of 35 years. Flex-R products have been supplied in the UK for more than 25 years, with systems available with material warranties subject to project type, specification and warranty terms. Training attendance supports understanding of Flex-R system installation requirements but does not in itself constitute third-party accreditation or certification of installer competence. Roofing works should be carried out by suitably trained and experienced contractors in accordance with project specifications and applicable regulations.
