Planning permission to demolish the tenement blocks on Smithdown Lane was granted on Tuesday (6 August), however, the buckled scaffolding on the side of the premises has halted the demolition until the site is deemed safe enough to continue works. The land is due to be transformed into a multi-storey car park and hotel, with the former student accommodation being flattened to make way for the new buildings.
