Cupaclad 101 Logic Provides an Eco-Friendly Solution for Three Hertfordshire Properties

CUPACLAD^® 101 Logic has been specified for the upper façade of three newly built houses located within the Metropolitan Green Belt of the Broxbourne District in Hertfordshire.

Installed by Roof Brothers, and carefully chosen to blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, the slate provides a timeless finish, whilst remaining compliant with the client’s sustainability requirements.

Squared Architects designed three properties at Rosebury Farm: the first to become the client’s own home, along with two others on neighbouring land for the client to eventually sell. Whilst sharing the same architectural style and material palette, the properties were designed to have some visible distinctions. Each building offers visual interest, with stepped facades helping to mitigate and soften their overall structures.

“From the outset, we wanted the project to be characterised by modern, minimal geometries, while employing traditional materials, rather than synthetic façade cladding,” commented Simone Demurtas, Director of Squared Architects.

“As such, we specified natural slate to ensure the building’s design reflected the local heritage and fostered a harmonious connection with the landscape. This was our first project using CUPACLAD^®, and we found it to be significantly better than the other options available, as it offers a beautiful, almost metallic finish that creates a stunning effect in the daylight.”

Eco-Friendly Solution

To align with the architect’s sustainability ambitions to use materials with low environmental impact as well as the necessary aesthetic requirements, CUPACLAD 101 Logic was recommended by the project’s developer, Roof Brothers. The product was then installed on the upper half of the building façade on each of the new build homes constructed at Rosebury Farm.

Victor Wakefield, director at Roof Brothers, commented: “We have used the system numerous times before this project, so for us it was the obvious choice. The installation process is straightforward and well thought through. The horizontal CUPACLAD profiles fix directly onto the timber subframe, which allows you to build up the façade quickly and accurately. The pre-holed slates and dedicated CUPACLAD 101 screws make positioning and fixing clean and consistent, saving time on site.

“On this project, we had large window openings to work around, but the system is flexible enough to accommodate that without issue. The slates can be trimmed precisely where needed, and details such as powder coated aluminium window flashings and lead junctions integrate neatly with the façade.”

CUPACLAD Rainscreen Cladding

CUPACLAD is a fully BBA-approved, Class A1 non-combustible, back ventilated and drained façade system that provides architects and specifiers with a myriad of design options, from traditional to contemporary.

Thanks to the use of natural material and a recyclable aluminium substructure, the system is sustainable and ecological. Furthermore, the natural slate goes through a simple production process that does not use any chemicals – and one that requires less water and energy than alternative roofing products. As a result, CUPA PIZARRAS is Net Zero certified and has a EcoVadis Gold Medal and BRE Global verification of its EPD.

As with all CUPA PIZARRAS slate, CUPACLAD 101 Logic offers unbeatable quality as it is both durable and resistant.
