Read the latest magazine Industry News CSCS Smart Check App Update 16 June 2022 HAVING ALREADY improved card checking procedures at site gates, the CSCS Smart Check app has been updated to include a number of additional card schemes that display the CSCS logo and an improved process for reporting cards that may have been obtained fraudulently. Developed by the 38 schemes displaying the CSCS logo and launched in April 2022, CSCS Smart Check allows those responsible for checking cards to verify over two million cards using a single app on their smartphone or tablet. Improved Functionality Cards from all but four of the 38 card schemes displaying the CSCS logo can now be checked using the app whether using QR codes, Contactless technology, or manual input. Those with ACE, CSWIP, ICATS or LEEA cards should continue to use their existing card checking processes. These four remaining card schemes will be incorporated into the app’s next update. In addition, the app now includes improved functionality to report suspected fraudulent cards, providing employers with a quick, easy and secure way of identifying and then reporting fraudulently obtained cards. Alan O’Neile, CSCS Head of Communications, said: “CSCS Smart Check is the most significant development to site entry processes in over 10 years. “With these new updates, CSCS Smart Check cements its position as the perfect solution for construction sites that do not have sophisticated card checking apparatus such as turnstiles. All you need is a mobile phone or tablet device in order to verify the qualifications and training of over two million construction workers in the UK.” Smart Solution The app was designed and built to meet Construction Leadership Council requirements, which demanded a smart solution to validate all cards displaying the CSCS logo. CSCS Smart Check functions as a standalone application and remains incompatible with existing site entry systems such as turnstiles and desktop card readers. Employers can continue to use these systems if required although the app’s project team will soon begin the process of enabling existing card checking systems to become compatible with CSCS Smart Check. The app is free and available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
