Read the latest magazine Industry News Construction Professionals Call for Increased Awareness of BIM 18 December 2018 CONSTRUCTION sector workers are calling for increased awareness of Building Information Modelling (BIM) methods to help the UK compete in Europe and globally. Over 70% of professionals surveyed by the business standards company (BSI), stated that BIM will put the UK’s industry on a better footing to compete internationally. The survey showed that respondents see improvements in design quality, communication and cost control as the biggest benefits of BIM. However, 40% of respondents felt that BIM would not live up to expectations unless it is fully implemented across the industry. Three quarters believed that an industry-wide awareness campaign is necessary to overcome the challenges associated with BIM adoption. Four in ten of those surveyed also cited a lack of client demand and resistance from supply chain partners as factors preventing BIM implementation. Call for Increased Awareness of BIM BSI found that industry professionals still struggle to adopt BIM, with some respondents highlighting a reluctance to let old methods go (49%) and others having difficulty finding the right resources (45%). Yet those who say that they struggle to convince their board of BIM advantages is much smaller, at 21%. More training in Building Information Modelling, as well as additional incentives, are other solutions to which the industry gave its backing. Andy Butterfield, Product Certification Director of Built Environment at BSI, said: “The UK industry has been leading the way in BIM development. We’ve been working for a number of years with professionals and government to create best practice standards, training and certification for Building Information Modelling. These are based on consensus knowledge to accelerate innovation and to help address the barriers to BIM adoption.” >> Read more about Building Information Modelling in the news Previous article Grenfell Cladding Manufacturer Blames Other Construction Materials for FireNext article National Buying Group Raises Over £9,000 at Annual Conference Share article You may also like View all News Industry News +2 20 March 2026 RA Issues Revised Safety Guidance on Rooflight Covers Awards and Events +3 20 March 2026 The Great British Slate Off Returns for 2026 Green Roofs +3 20 March 2026 Swansea Joins Global Network of Biophilic Cities Featured Solutions +3 19 March 2026 Flush Fitting Rooflights by Clement Sign Up to Roofing Today Stay up to date with all of the latest news from Roofing Today by signing up to our weekly Bulletins… Sign Up Today Get in Touch Check out the latest issue 123 March-April 2026 View Now Past Issues Get in Touch
