Concrete Roof Tiles Production and Deliveries Down in Q2 2021

CONCRETE ROOF TILES production, deliveries and stocks all fell in Q2, 2021, according to the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) data on Building Materials and Components.

The figures show that concrete roofing tiles produced ready for dispatch fell from 6,080,000m2 in the first quarter of the year, to 3,930,000m2 in April to June 2021. The fall is a 35% drop in production.

Concrete Roof Tiles Deliveries

Deliveries of concrete roof tiles were also down, decreasing from 5,918,000m2 in Q1 2021 to the latest figure at the end of June of 3,990,000 m2 delivered – a decrease of 33%.

Stocks of concrete roofing tiles were at their lowest levels recorded in the past decade. The figures show stocks of 1,658,000 m2 which is lower even than stocks held after the lockdowns in 2020.

Materials Comparison

The drops in production, deliveries and stocks of concrete roof tiles compares to other building materials that have recovered rates of output. Concrete blocks, for example, has increased both its production and deliveries in the same period. Meanwhile, sand and gravel used for concrete production and concreting have both increased their sales in Q2 by 13% and 15% respectively. However, sales of both building materials have not yet recovered to their pre-pandemic levels.

Price Rises

Other data in the latest update on building materials shows that plywood and structural steel both increased in price by the most, rising by 66% and 53% respectively.

The price of screws fell by 13% in Q2 after shortages and price rises in previous months.

Overall, the total of prices of building materials for all construction work increased by 14.7% in June 2021 compared to the same month the previous year.
