The industry organisation is calling for the government to work with it to develop a model for retrofitting the UK’s 29 million homes. It says it can offer £500 million from industry to jumpstart a programme. The CLC also says it’s not worth the industry lobbying for further investment in publicly funded construction projects. Instead, it is asking for current funding for projects, including HS2 and the Health Infrastructure Plan, to be maintained. It also wants the £3000 apprenticeship employment incentive funding to be continued. Andy Mitchell, CLC Co-Chair The Construction Leadership Council’s chair, Andy Mitchell wrote to the Chancellor at the end of September suggesting the next steps needed for the decarbonisation of existing building stock. It says that digital twins (computer models of real-world buildings and infrastructure performance) will need to be developed. CLC points to the Construction Innovation Hub developed as a means to improve industry productivity and push down costs on a future retrofit programme. >>Read more about retrofit strategy in the news Previous article Materials and Staff Shortages Hold Back Construction in September SlowdownNext article LHC Reveals Contractors Appointed to £1.6bn Public Buildings Framework Share article You may also like View all News Industry News +2 20 March 2026 RA Issues Revised Safety Guidance on Rooflight Covers Awards and Events +3 20 March 2026 The Great British Slate Off Returns for 2026 Green Roofs +3 20 March 2026 Swansea Joins Global Network of Biophilic Cities Featured Solutions +3 19 March 2026 Flush Fitting Rooflights by Clement Sign Up to Roofing Today Stay up to date with all of the latest news from Roofing Today by signing up to our weekly Bulletins… Sign Up Today Get in Touch Check out the latest issue 123 March-April 2026 View Now Past Issues Get in Touch
