Read the latest magazine Health & Safety Industry News CLC Building Safety Report 2 September 2024 THE CONSTRUCTION Leadership Council (CLC) has published a report on industry’s progress on improving building safety after the Grenfell Tower tragedy. The report sets out progress on five key areas: Leadership and Culture Safe Design Safe Construction Safe Products Safe Occupation The report concludes that whilst progress has been made, much work remains to be done. CLC Building Safety Report More progress is needed to fulfil the CLC’s ambition of an industry in which culture, behaviours and competence have been transformed to deliver safe buildings. Mark Reynolds, CLC Chair and Mace Group CE, said in his foreword to the report: “It is clear there is more progress to be made to support companies and individuals working in our sector, particularly to improve competency pathways and product regulations, where we are awaiting regulatory clarification.” It also sets out the ongoing work of building safety, which will be reviewed after publication of the Phase 2 Report of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry on 4th September 2024. Key Objectives Currently, the CLC is working on delivering five key objectives: Regulatory Clarity: increasing regulatory clarity and improving the understanding of the regulations and their adoption by the industry. Competence: leading industry competence, the development of standards, industry accreditation and driving the adoption of required behaviours. Construction Products: supporting the clarification of product information and certification including testing Golden Thread: supporting better design and construction delivery through improving industry processes, skills and digital technologies. Professional Indemnity Insurance: developing partnerships and campaigns which unlock financially sustainable PII and other forms of insurance for those who deliver, own and occupy safer buildings.
