Read the latest magazine Industry News CITB to Lead Review of Standards for Labourers 19 February 2025 CITB IS leading a review of Standards for labourers which set out the minimum requirements for competency and gaining access to sites. The organisation is now seeking volunteers from industry to help shape basic competency requirements for labourers in future. The standards for obtaining a CSCS Labourer card are set by the industry, not CSCS. Currently, applicants must: Achieve the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment (or an approved alternative). Pass the CITB Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) test (or an approved alternative). CITB in its role as the Standard Setting Body, is approved by the National Occupational Standards Governance Group and Skills Development Scotland to update National Occupational Standards (NOS) on behalf of the construction industry. As part of a cyclical review of standards CITB have established a working group of industry experts to revise the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment to ensure it remains relevant and fit for purpose. Volunteer Opportunity CITB is inviting industry volunteers to help shape the future of the L1 Award and how it fits into Core Construction competency standards. This will provide the base level of competence for all those starting out onsite including Labourers. Volunteers will ideally be employers or industry experts and have an up-to-date working knowledge of the occupation relevant to their sector. They will work within the construction and allied industries and understand labourer training and assessment requirements.
