Nutrient neutrality controls are designed to prevent the release of reactive nitrogen into the environment when new housing developments are built. Nutrient pollution is currently impacting permissions for development and delaying the delivery of 120,000 new homes across 74 local authorities across the UK. In an announcement in March the government said, as well as launching a call for evidence, it will provide funding to support clearer routes for housing developers to deliver nutrient neutral sites. This will aid its ambition to build 300,000 new homes each year by the mid-2020s. Call for Evidence The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities is inviting all local planning authorities (LPAs) affected by the issue to: Provide evidence as to the impact of nutrient neutrality; and Provide information and views about the scale of the impact of nutrient neutrality, forthcoming solutions, and on-going work at a catchment level. The Department is also interested in hearing from others who have evidenced proposals which could reduce nutrient pollution and unlock housing. LPAs affected by nutrient neutrality are invited to submit costed expressions of interest for projects or strategies for delivering nutrient mitigation to unlock housing delivery in catchments of Habitats Sites affected by nutrient pollution. The Call for Evidence and Expression of Interest will close at 11.45pm on 24 May 2023. >> Read more about nutrient neutrality in the news Previous article Main Contractor Pursues Cladding Subcontractor for £10m Remedial WorkNext article Guide to Managing Safety-Critical Elements in Building Construction Published Share article You may also like View all News Industry News +2 20 March 2026 RA Issues Revised Safety Guidance on Rooflight Covers Awards and Events +3 20 March 2026 The Great British Slate Off Returns for 2026 Green Roofs +3 20 March 2026 Swansea Joins Global Network of Biophilic Cities Featured Solutions +3 19 March 2026 Flush Fitting Rooflights by Clement Sign Up to Roofing Today Stay up to date with all of the latest news from Roofing Today by signing up to our weekly Bulletins… Sign Up Today Get in Touch Check out the latest issue 123 March-April 2026 View Now Past Issues Get in Touch
