IN A STATEMENT issued today Calder Industrial Materials says they are delighted to have been exonerated of any part in the lead cartel

The statement follows findings of Competition and Market Authority (CMA) published on its investigation into three rolled lead firms anti-competitive practices.

The three firms – Associated Lead Mills, BLM British Lead and Calder Industrial Materials – were thought to have formed a cartel to limit supply, keep prices high, exclude competitors and share information about customers.

Calder Industrial Materials denied its involvement and in June 2020, when the provisional findings of its case were first made public by the CMA, Calder reiterated its innocence.

Admissions of guilt

ALM and BLM both admitted taking part in the illegal cartel activities in return for reduced fines, which are £1.5 million and £8 million respectively.

In Calder’s statement Martin Armour, Commercial Director says,

“Integrity is the key to our clients trust and has helped our business to build a strong, loyal and valued customer base over almost 250 years. We are therefore pleased to have been fully exonerated.”
