Building Materials Supplier Marks 15 Years in Business

INDEPENDENT building materials supplier Northern Building Plastics (NBP) is celebrating 15 years in business, reflecting on its journey from a single-unit operation to a national supplier with five super depots and a £30m turnover.

The business was founded in 2010 by Judah Wilson and Richard Lindop, who remain the majority shareholders and active directors today. Previously, Judah ran a roofline installation business and frequently faced challenges with unreliable product supply, while Richard had worked in sales for an industry competitor. Spotting a gap in the market for a dependable supplier that could deliver at scale, they launched NBP from a warehouse in Leeds during the recession.

Quickly outgrowing its original premises, NBP later moved into larger facilities and invested steadily in infrastructure – including vehicles, systems and staff – to support increasing demand. The company now operates five depots in Leeds, Bolton, Birtley, Hinckley, and Hemel Hempstead.

CEO Judah Wilson said: “We started with a small team and a lot of manual processes, but the focus was always on making sure customers got what they needed, when they needed it. That focus hasn’t changed. We’ve grown carefully and deliberately, investing where it matters and keeping our service standards front and centre.”

Director Richard Lindop added: “We’re still involved in the day-to-day and we still speak to customers. That direct connection to the trade helps us stay responsive and focused on what matters. We’ve never lost sight of the reason we started NBP – to offer a reliable, well-stocked service that our customers can count on.”

Over the last 15 years, NBP has hit numerous milestones, including reaching £1m turnover and rolling out twilight shifts across its network to improve delivery times. The business also operates a central knowledge and logistics hub from its Leeds site.

Looking ahead, NBP aims to open a further five depots within the next five years.

Northern Building Plastics supplies a wide range of building products, including roofline, cladding, drainage and underground systems, serving contractors, installers, and merchants.
