British Safety Council Certificates Not Accepted for Labourer Cards, Warns CSCS

THE CONSTRUCTION SKILLS CERTIFICATION SCHEME (CSCS) is reminding card applicants it does not accept Level 1 Awards in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment issued by the British Safety Council (BSC) dated before February 2017.

The reminder comes after CSCS recently identified a number of fraudulent claims associated with BSC certificates from applicants applying for Labourer cards.

Anyone wishing to replace their card using a BSC certificate dated prior to February 2017 is required to achieve (or retake) the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment. A list of organisations offering the award can be viewed here.

Preventing Fraudulent Activity

Angeleen Hill, Scheme Manager at CSCS, said: “CSCS takes the issue of fraudulent activity extremely seriously and it is essential that steps are taken to prevent it. People obtaining qualifications fraudulently are not qualified to do their job and cannot demonstrate the required level of health and safety needed to operate safely on a UK construction site.

“CSCS will continue to share intelligence and work with our industry partners when the evidence suggests criminal activity is taking place. CSCS remains confident that the vast majority of cards issued are a result of obtaining a qualification legitimately.”
