Designed to reduce reverberation in buildings with a high proportion of hard internal surfaces, especially where noise is generated within the building – such as sports facilities – the infills fit into the troughs of perforated metal profiles used in structural steel roof decks. The new facility will open at The Waterfront, Hartlepool, in autumn 2025, replacing the town’s ageing 1970s leisure centre. The development for Hartlepool Borough Council is being delivered in partnership with main contractor Wates, a leader in the sport and leisure sector, while the striking design has been created by GT3 Architects. Via SIG Tyneside, AIM has supplied the Acoustic Trough Infills for two large roof areas to Wates’ contractor Chemplas, the North East-based roofing, cladding and glazing company. “The roof design specified acoustic trough infills,” explains Chris Dale, AIM’s Business Development Manager (North). “Having received profile details from Chemplas, AIM cut the easy to fit infills to suit the deck. Though a small part of the roof system and a simple product, our Acoustic Trough Infills are a very effective and cost-efficient way to reduce reverberation in a building.” AIM Acoustic Infills AIM’s Acoustic Trough Infills will reduce reverberation at Hartlepool’s new Active Wellbeing Hub AIM Acoustic Trough Infills are available in a range of densities and are factory cut to suit any trapezoidal profile or perforated standing seam decking. The infills are stone wool, which is recognised as a good sound absorbing material. Acoustic performance is dependent on the structure of the deck and the open area within it. AIM manufactures the infills to order. Typically, products are supplied in seven to ten working days. They are provided in a range of finishes, including plain (natural mineral wool), white or black glass tissue-faced or Mylar sleeved for humid or moist environments such as swimming pools. Highlight Active Wellbeing Hub The Highlight Active Wellbeing Hub is set to have major long-term benefits for Hartlepool in line with the Council’s commitment to regenerate the town, raise aspirations and support improved health outcomes for local people.
