A Celebration of 50 Years of Service

RUSSELL ROOF TILES is saying goodbye to a long-standing member of staff Paul Dennis, after 50 years.

Paul, aged 68, is a supervisor at the Burton on Trent plastics site and is set to retire from the tile manufacturer, which he’s seen significantly change over the past half century.

Paul began working for the firm back in 1972, before it was acquired by Russell Building Products Ltd, and has since worked his way up to a supervisor role. This is where he manages a small team of eight to ensure equipment at the plant operates safely and efficiently.

Employing 140 staff across its three sites, Russell Roof Tiles is the largest independent manufacturer of concrete derivatives in the UK. The company produces thousands of tiles every week that are used on roofs across the UK, by premier housebuilders and developers.

To celebrate his 50 years of service and to mark his retirement, Russell Roof Tiles presented Paul with a special award to honour his hard work and dedication over the years, along with a £200 voucher and a vintage electric guitar, a very personal gift that the team have chosen due to his love and passion for playing the instrument.

Andrew Hayward, Managing Director at Russell Roof Tiles said: “Paul has always been a valuable and high performing member of the team. He’s part of the furniture and will be greatly missed by all of us, especially those who work the night shifts with him. He’ll be missed by the company, but he is ready to pass on the baton to his replacement for the role, Anatolijs, who is now ready to take on the challenge.”

Although Paul hasn’t got any retirement plans set in stone, it seems he just can’t walk away from a place that he’s called home for the last 50 years. Therefore, he hopes to take on training apprentices once a week at the firm to give back to the company that have supported him for all these years.

Presented with awards

The long service awards were launched in 2015 to recognise and celebrate those who have been with the company for more than 10 years. This year, eight employees will be presented with awards ranging from 10 to 50 years of service.

Celebrating and supporting significant staff milestones is just one initiative designed by Russell Roof Tiles to reward and support its 140 hardworking employees.
