Cskills Awards Changes Ownership

The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has today agreed the sale of its awarding body, Cskills Awards, to NOCN.

Cskills Awards provides accreditation to third party assessment and training centres which offer construction training courses and qualifications.

The accreditation organisation currently oversees approximately 4,000 apprenticeships a year and 271 regulated construction qualifications, from level1 to7.

The sale will be completed on 1 August when 24 Cskills Awards staff will transfer their employment to NOCN  (previously the National Open College Network). They will continue with their current working arrangements, either at CITB’s headquarters in Bircham Newton or as mobile workers, throughout 2017.

CITB reportedly sold Cskills Awards to NOCN in order to prioritise its industry skills sector council function and avoid any conflict of interest as it develops construction skill standards by no longer being in the marketplace to accredit the courses and qualifications based on those standards.

Both parties are keen to emphasise that that Cskills Awards will continue to provide services as normal under the new ownership.

The Norfolk-based division of CITB had 97,500 learner registrations and 69,000 qualifications gained in the 2015/2016 academic year.

Sarah Beale, Chief Executive of CITB, said:

“The sale of Cskills Awards is the right decision for the construction industry. NOCN has a commitment to continuing to service the breadth of products and services and maintain quality levels.

“In addition, NOCN will be able to greatly expand the range of qualifications on offer to customers, beyond construction occupations, as they are not subject to the same restrictions as CITB.

“Our thanks and good wishes go with our colleagues who have not only served CITB well, but I am sure will continue to deliver excellent support to the industry through NOCN.”
