A Strong Year of Growth for Sales of Building Products

Another strong set of results for the final quarter of 2016 completes a further year of growth in sales of building materials through UK builders’ merchants.

The Builders Merchants Building Index (BMBI) tracks builders’ merchants’ actual sales to builders and contractors using GfK’s Builders’ Merchant Point of Sale Tracking Data. The BMBI represents over 80% of the value of the builders' merchants' market.

  • 2016 sales +5.2% on 2015
  • Q4 sales +5.5% on Q4 2015
  • December sales +4.0% on December 2015

Particularly strong Q4 year-on-year performances were seen in landscaping, heavy building materials, kitchens & bathrooms, and ironmongery.
