Martin Temple is new Chair of the Health and Safety Executive Board

Martin Temple is an experienced director, having served on a number of boards in the public and charity sector.

He is currently the Chairman of the Design Council, a non-executive director of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust, on the Council of the University of Warwick and Chairman of the Advisory Board of Warwick Business School.

He was previously Vice President of Avesta-Sheffield AB, a major producer of stainless steel and has served on the boards of a wide range of companies around the world. Prior to this, Martin was Director of Sales and Marketing for British Steel Stainless. He has extensive experience in senior roles overseeing production, marketing, operations and strategy in an international context.

Martin has worked closely with many UK government departments, chairing programmes and reviews, working as part of various European business forums.  He has also served on the boards of a number of employer and trade bodies.

He has previously worked with HSE, having led an independent triennial review of the Health and Safety Executive in 2014.

Martin will take up the role from 1 May 2016, following Dame Judith Hackitt’s departure.
