DACH+HOLZ Announces Excellent Architects, Exciting Building Projects

DACH+HOLZ has announced a line-up of internationally-renowned and distinguished architects who will be talking about their current wooden construction projects at the architecture forum holz3 Superwood.

The forum will take place on Thursday, 4th February, 2016 at the Stuttgart Exhibition Center, as part of the DACH+HOLZ International trade fair (2nd – 5th February, 2016) and will offer architects, planners and wood construction companies an important platform for exchanging ideas.

Six architects from Germany, Austria, Slovenia,Finland and Switzerland will be speaking from 9:45 am at the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart. Professionals will present examples of the variety of modern wooden architecture and its technical, economical and design possibilities.

This fascinating forum will begin with Oliver Sterl of the architectural office Lainer + Partner in Vienna who will offer insight into the works at “HoHo Wien”. At 84 meters and 24 stories, it is currently the tallest wooden house in the world. After beginning construction in the autumn of 2015, the property area of 4,000m2 is intended to hold living and office units as well as a restaurant, a hotel and a wellness area in just three years.

A presentation from Spela Vide─Źnik of OFIS arhitekti in Ljubljana revolves around minimal housing for extreme climatic conditions. Students of Harvard University, Graduate School of Design in Boston, developed concepts for a refuge hut in the high alpine region in Slovenia and realized one of these designs. Despite a simple cubature and a base of 12m2 fitting in up to 8 people, building the refuge hut was a massive undertaking that kept about 60 volunteers and numerous sponsors on their toes.

Also as part of the architecture forum at the DACH+HOLZ, Anssi Lassila of OOPEAA in Helsinki discusses among other things the construction of the first eight-story residential building in Finland, for which he was awarded the “Finlandia Prize for Architecture”

“A brave and ambitious project” was the verdict of the jury of the Finish architectural association SAFA. It doesn’t just take new architectonic and production-technological paths – for instance, the individual living modules and the façade elements are completely prefabricated from spruce wood – but it also guarantees that the tenants will become owners in just 20 years though a special financing model.

Additionally, Anssi Lassila talks about the significance of local materials and local customary building techniques and shows that wooden construction is booming again in Finland, too.

Component and moulding manufacturing for demanding wooden buildings and complex wooden constructions is the topic of Lehmann Timber Code AG in Swiss Gossau. The central means of production for manufacturing the freely-moulded structures of glued laminated timber is a 60m long and 6m wide machine for automatic cutting of complex curved wooden components.

The centrepiece here is the CNC control, which processes the data provided by architects and engineers.

In the production halls of Timber Code AG, up to 4,000m3 of wood from Swiss forests are to be processed yearly. After that, these components Made in Switzerland are exported to the entire world.

Swiss wooden construction expert Martin Antemann of Lehmann Timber Code AG is a professional carpenter and construction engineer. He already realized innovative and demanding solutions made of wood for renowned architects such as Herzog & de Meuron or Foster+Partner – his last commissions were for the Centre Pompidou in Metz and for the head office of Tamedia AG in Zurich under Japanese architect Shigeru Ban.

All lectures are translated simultaneously into German/English. Planners and architects can now register online for the event.

Discounted tickets for the DACH+HOLZ International trade fair in online presales are now available. Vouchers can also be redeemed in the online ticket shop.
